Why is life so hard?

Q: Sometimes I can't tell if I am doing things out of my Soul Mission, and receiving hardships in order to make me stronger, or if I'm just getting caught up in some type of self-hating, guilt trap of punishing myself. What do you think?

A: Let's start with your Soul Mission.

Your Soul Mission is to be joyful. Two ways to carry out your soul mission are to:

(a) Do things that make you feel good, and
(b) Quit doing things that make you feel bad

It's almost too simple, isn't it? Ah, well ... if the truth were complicated, everyone would understand it! ;-)

Let's look a little deeper, then. One thing that gives your soul joy is to expand your consciousness and understanding.

One of the most common methods for doing this is to put ourselves through hideous hardships and generate tremendous suffering - like with that self-hating guilt trap of punishing yourself pattern you've got going.

Fortunately, there are other ways to expand your consciousness and understanding - like experiences of ease, fulfillment, prosperity, lasting love, radiant health, harmonious relationships - your basic Abundance thing.

In fact, it's easier and more effective to expand in consciousness and understanding under pleasant circumstances because you're not putting energy into getting the rent paid, surviving an abusive relationship or enduring physical pain.

You're more free and present to focus on doing things that make you feel good, like flying to Milan to go to the opera, or giving a million dollars to your favorite charity, or taking a five-minute break before you go on to the next task.

Part of you may insist you somehow get more spiritual brownie points if you expand in consciousness through suffering rather than through happiness, as if there were innate virtue in suffering and sacrifice.

To put it elegantly: Baloney!

This is a fantasy. An illusion. A dream.

And it's time to wake up!

• Would you like to realize that even though your suffering was valuable and important, it's okay to stop now?
• Would you like to recognize, in the deepest part of your being - that you are strong - you are a master - you are the Captain of your destiny - without having to keep proving it to yourself by creating difficulties to overcome?
• Would you like to know all the ways to carry out your Soul Mission that are easy, effective, and Abundant in all ways - and what it feels like to feel safe and worthy to do them now?

If so, say "Yes" out loud and sense the energy coming in through the top of your head. Feel what you feel ... hear what you hear ... see what you see ... know what you know. Recognize it's delivered and done now.
